Dr. Jeffrey T. Liegner is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and he lectures widely on advanced cataract surgery techniques. He is fully Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is on the medical staff of Newton Memorial Hospital. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the most prestigious surgical affiliation available only after extensive training and demonstrated surgical skill.
Dr. Liegner is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the world's foremost academic organization for ophthalmologists. He has held multiple Academy committee appointments and has written many articles, book chapters and academic booklets for the education of other ophthalmologists. He is a member of the nationally assigned Task Force on Alternative Therapies in Ophthalmology reviewing and reporting on many and varied nontraditional eye treatments. He continues to be an invited guest lecturer to national meetings on surgical techniques, practice management topics, and complementary therapies.
Holding several leadership positions within the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Liegner is active in the National Association for Parents of the Visually Impaired (NAPVI), the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), and the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), for whom he often provides informative lectures on ophthalmic concerns.
He moved from Oregon where he had served by legislative appointment to the Board of Directors for the state's Commission for the Blind. Part of his past responsibilities also included regularly performing duty as Physician for the Day to the elective representatives during legislative sessions. For many years, he has taught ophthalmology to young physicians at the state's medical school.
